America Won’t Get Ford’s Fiesta ECOnetic

Ford has a 65 miles per gallon eco-friendly coupe, which seats five and looks pretty sporty to boot. It’s called the Fiesta ECOnetic (catchy, eh?) and it will go on sale throughout Europe this November. It’s expected to be a huge success for Ford overseas. And we bet you’d love to drive one down your green streets in the months to come. Well, if you live in North America you won’t be getting one.

Why won’t the Fiesta come state side? There are two main reasons, both of which are financial (when are they not?). The first – Fiesta ECOnetic runs on diesel. And unless you drive a large utility pick up, or an older Mercedes Benz, you’re probably not used to pulling up to the diesel pump at your local Speedway. Diesel also costs roughly $1 more per gallon than regular unleaded gasoline, currently. The other reason is import prices. The Fiesta will run European buyers about $15,000 USD, but over here it would run $25,000 after import charges. However, with the tumbling economy and rising fuel prices we think you shouldn’t give up hope for a small city car from Ford in the future.
