Ford Focus Will Dial 911

CEO Allan Mulally unveiled a new feature for the upcoming 2012 Ford Focus during Ford’s keynote speech at the 2011 CeBIT.

Called Sync Emergency Assistance, the service will come standard in all Ford vehicles with a Sync system already installed. This program will launch in 2012 and on all Sync-ready models thereafter.

Sync Emergency Assistance links to your cell phone or mobile device via Bluetooth, making sure that both driver and passengers are not left stranded without help in case of an accident. In the event of a car crash, the system will be able to automatically send out a 911 phone call or respond to an ambulance. Sync then uses GPS and cell towers to triangulate the car’s position, so these emergency services will know how to find your location. The car will even speak the language of the 911 hotline operator, depending on what country you are in when the accident takes place.

Drivers should expect Sync Emergency Assistance to pop up in Ford cars next year.
