That’s right – Kiplinger’s Personal Finance named two Ford vehicles (Mustang GT and redesigned Explorer) their “Best New Models” for 2011.

With the Mustang GT, “the publication called out its high resale value, relatively low service and insurance costs, and overall modest price; in picking the Explorer, the SUV’s safety record and rigid new unibody construction won praise. But interestingly, there was one particular common advantage that stood out with both vehicles: High-performance, high-efficiency powerplants.”

“This includes a brand-new 5.0-liter all-aluminum V8 for the 2011 Mustang GT, giving the modern-day muscle car a robust combination of performance and fuel economy. That comes courtesy of Ford engine technologies like sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection, twin independent variable valve camshaft timing and high-energy coil-on-plug spark plugs, delivering a bottom line of 412 hp, 390 hp and 26 mpg on the highway.”

“Standard on the new Explorer is an advanced 3.5-liter V6, but the engine’s performance is anything but “standard.” Instead, it helps Ford’s popular SUV achieve a best-in-class EPA rating of 25 mpg highway—a 25 percent increase over its 2010 results—yet still tow up to 5,000 lbs. when properly equipped. In addition, the Explorer soon will be available with one of the automaker’s groundbreaking EcoBoost I4 engines, which is expected to improve fuel economy even further.”

Good news everyone! Pretty fancy, we must say.

Ford upgraded the engine in 2011′s Mustang from a 4.6-liter V8 & to 5.0-liter V8-powered GT, which produces 412-horsepower and up to 390 ft-lb of torque – pushing the racer to 60 mph in under 4.7 seconds. Using the six-speed automatic the car generates a 17/25mpg rating.

Also on display was the Special Edition BOSS ‘stang, with addition paint and trim options. No word on the enhancement of horse power on this particular model – but just wait until Shelby gets their over-charging mittens on 2011′s model. Enjoy these sexy photos of Ford’s new Mustang below:
