Matt Kenseth, in his Ford DeWalt #17 stock car, took the checkered flag. Take a look at some of the exciting moments of this year’s Daytona race, along with the victory shot of a Ford crossing the finish line after a rather lackluster conclusion due to rain.

Heavy rain and dangerous track conditions (as if a NASCAR is anything but dangerous) forced the event to be called off 48 laps short of its regular 200 lap duration.

But that didn’t phase these drivers, especially Wisconsin native Matt Kenseth. After a winless 2008 Kenseth found himself at the lead when coming around the final turn and took home a victory in his No. 17 DeWalt Ford crossed the finish line.

Sadly, this race will forever be put on the books with an asterisk next to Kenseth’s name. What could have come of his team and the other competitors if a full race was performed, or if NASCAR officials started a mere 30-45 minutes sooner? Heavy rain was forecast for later that day, though a starting flag drop was not moved up. Still, we won’t take away from Kenseth & Ford’s victory at Daytona, but we will always wonder what if.
